How to Decorate Your Entry

You never get a second chance to make a first impression- what does your home’s entry say about you? Is it dated and cluttered or does it feel warm and inviting? Make the entry to your home both fabulous and functional with these pro tips and 7 “must-have” items…

1. Storage/Cabinet-

The most important decor item your entry needs is attractive storage, whether it be a cabinet, console table, wall shelf, or large floor basket.  Use this piece to organize all your odds and ends such as car keys, dog leashes, and mail.  Pro tip: closed storage like a drawer, cabinet, or lidded basket will help keep this space neat.

2. Mirror-

The next thing you will want to add is a beautiful mirror. Besides providing a place to check your appearance before leaving your home…a mirror will add light and a little sparkle to your entry.  Hanging a mirror will also open up a narrow, dark hallway if your entry feels a little tight.

3. Table Lamp(s)-

If at all possible, try to add a lamp of some kind to your entry, and put it on a timer- this will give your home a warm, welcoming ambiance for both you and your guests.  Soft lamp lighting is always nicer than harsh overhead lighting!

4. Rug-

When decorating your entry, don’t forget the floor- a pretty rug will add texture, color, and interest to this space while helping to keep your floors clean. Select a beautiful performance/indoor-outdoor rug for extra durability!

5. Fresh Flowers or Live Plant-

Nothing will add beauty and life to a room quite like fresh flowers or a live plant…why not do the same for your entry?  If you have trouble keeping plants alive, consider a long-lasting, low-maintenance potted orchid or good-looking faux greenery.

6. Scented Candle-

Add an attractive scented candle to your entry and greet your guests with a beautiful fragrance- it will keep your entry looking and smelling great!

7. Decorative Bowl or Tray-

I love using decorative bowls or trays in entries to hold all of life’s little necessities like keys, wallets, sunglasses, etc… Be sure to select one that complements your home’s color scheme and style.
