How to Style Your Kitchen Island

I get asked all the time, “How do I style my kitchen island?” Kitchens are the heart of the home and kitchen islands are a natural gathering place-you want them to be both functional and beautiful!
Would you believe that over the years I have developed a simple go-to decorating formula for kitchen islands and it works every time! Actually, it’s more like following a recipe-you just gather the right ingredients then follow the simple instructions.
KITCHEN ISLAND STYLING RECIPE:
Ingredients:
- large round wood board or tray
- large vase or pitcher or planter
- fresh (or good faux) flowers, stems, branches or plant
- large scented candle
- small decorative item (bowl with fruit, decorative wood beads, seasonal item, etc…)
Instructions:
- Find your inspiration-what is the overall style and look you want?
- Take inventory-clear your island of all clutter, decide what you want to keep and what you need to relocate.
- Make an itemized list of any “ingredients” you need to source.
- Go shopping and identify the needed ingredients.
- Install your new items-set everything up on your wood board, try different combinations until it feels right.
- Light your candle and enjoy!
Notes:
-Kitchen islands are a great spot for seasonal decor, consider using seasonal flowers or stems in your vase and other seasonal decor like seashells/starfish for summer, pumpkins for fall, etc…
-Always purchase a few options to try out and see what works best.
