Tips for Decorating with Candles

As a professional decorator for over 20 years, I love to use candles as decor…I bet almost every room I decorate has a candle of some sort! Candles engage the five senses…
Sight- you can see its light
Sound- you can hear it’s flickering
Smell- you can smell its fragrance
Feel- you can feel it’s warmth
Here are some of my favorite ways to use candles:
- Pillar candles- group 2-3 chunky candlesticks with pillar candles- be sure to use a variety of heights.
- Hurricanes- large glass containers look great with candles, you can even add other items as “filler” around the base of the candle for more interest.
- Lanterns- not just for outside use, a pretty lantern looks great on a console or coffee table with filled with candles and other decor.
- Scented candles- I love to use scented candles in bathrooms, kitchens and near the entry, not only are they pretty, but they are also functional in eliminating unwanted odors.
- Taper candles- I love to incorporate groupings of taper candles in pretty candlesticks on dining tables as a part of a centerpiece- because they are skinny, they won’t block your view of others around the table.
- Tray of pillar candles- An easy way to add interest to any table is to group 5-6 pillar candles of varying heights on a simple tray, to soften the look, you can add greenery or rocks to the bottom of the tray.
- Glass votive candles- groupings in bookshelves or on tables
If you are ever looking to add a pretty accent to your home, consider using a candle or two. A candle brings life and light to your room, it adds even romance and instant ambiance.
