How to Wake Up a Boring Room

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get a little “bored” with my house!  I like change- (new colors, new styles) and get tired of things quickly so over the years I have learned how to refresh a room on the cheap…here are five of my top ideas for how to wake up a boring room:

1. Introduce a new color.

The fastest way to update a boring room is by incorporating a new color…maybe with a new pillow, or artwork, or some fresh flowers.  Paint something unexpected like a small end table or decorative box.  Anywhere you can add a new pop of color will instantly refresh your room.

2. Re-arrange something.

Why not move some furniture around- or if you are happy with your arrangement, move your accessories and artwork around and experiment with a new look…or if you are feeling really brave take all the accessories out of the room and trade them for items in other areas of your home.  You don’t always have to buy something new to get a totally new look!

3. Add something large scale.

Another way to add a little drama and interest is with something large scale like a big vase of tall stems or maybe trade out some smaller pieces of art for one large canvas or mirror…the bigger the better!

4. Remove all excess clutter.

Nothing makes a room look old and stale like piles of clutter everywhere…simply take a few minutes to gather up everything that doesn’t belong in that space and relocate it!  (Even better, put it back where it belongs or donate it if you no longer need it).  Your room will start to look more open and airy with this one simple step.

5. Add fresh flowers, cut stems or a new plant.

Bring your room back to life with a pretty arrangement of fresh flowers (I get mine from the grocery store) or add some yard clippings to a large vase for a dramatic look, or simply add a pretty potted plant like ivy or pothos to a table.  Nothing adds more interest or life like flowers or houseplants- bonus: they are great for the air quality in your home!

Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope these tips help you “wake up” any boring areas of your home…
